Kitchen Disaster: Blueberry Coffee Cake

Oh, what is that?

whole cake

I see sugar on top of it, so it must be something promising.

Let’s take it out of that bundt pan.

Why, it’s a cake!

It’s a cake with blueberries inside!

Let’s grab a slice!

So far so good…

Well that’s odd.

Why did all the blueberries sink to the bottom?

And cause the cake to fall apart?

I better go back and look at the recipe.

Would you look at that. It says that if you use really fresh blueberries, you should decrease the amount of blueberries and buttermilk, so they won’t sink to the bottom.

Humph.

I didn’t think that I would actually need the Critical Thinking class I’m taking this semester.

But, at least the cake still tastes good, especially with a dollop of butter.

    Ah, kitchen disasters. I made a truffled mac and cheese recipe this weekend that was awful – the recipe proportions were way, way off. We threw it away and went out for burgers.

    Ahh, I wish my kitchen disasters looked so delicious. That jammy berry bottom looks brilliant.

    A short while back, I made red pepper/tomato soup with some aging bits and pieces I'd liberated from the bottom of the fridge. I was quite pleased about the lack of wastage, smug even. Then I wandered off and left it cooking too long, and it dried out and welded itself to the pan. SIGH.

    Aw bummer, I hate when you miss an important detail. At least your mistake is still edible in then end. 🙂

    Bummer! Well I still think it looks beautiful..and delicious!
    Not as much with cooking but I seriously sliced my finger pretty good trying to open a can of beans. Needless to say, it put the cooking on hold until I got it under control. 🙁

    @Michelann: What a shame. Truffled mac and cheese sounds amazing!

    @Katie: haha thanks! 😀

    @Suz: It was actually pretty yummy, despite it's jammy structure. 😀 I hate it when something as delicious as soups don't work out (I'm a bit obsessed with soups these days). But still, I think you deserve lot of brownie points for resourcefulness.

    @Amanda: True!

    @Kristen: Oh no! Hope you're okay now. 🙂

    i had a couple of problems with blueberries myself. No matter what I'd do they sank to the bottom until one day I learn to cover the berries in flour prior to adding them to the mixture. It worked! Hooray!

    You may not have meant for the blueberries to sink but they certainly made the photos more beautiful and dramatic! I would make it that way every time, serve it with a spoon or fork and simply call it "Sunken Blueberry Cake." 😀

    BTW I just "tagged" you in a post over on my blog to help more of my readers discover La Kocinera: theflirtyguide.blogspot.com/2012/01/blog-tag-youre-it.html
