This week was such a mish mash of things that I couldn’t help but share them with you. There was just too much cohesive thought pervading this blog, and that is an issue that must be rectified immediately. So, let the rambling commence!

I finished one Korean soap opera and started watching another. It’s fabulous and makes me want to eat kimchi and bibimbap, both of which I’ve never tried but have heard marvy things about.

Was my mom’s birthday. Instead of a huge birthday cake, this year we had a buncha cupcakes. In luverly flavors such as perfectly perfect vanilla (with bunny sprinkles!!), decadent chocolate,

This week…

starbucks cup

I’ve been making the rounds to Starbucks even more than I already do, by convincing myself that I have a flimsily legitimate excuse.

Basically, this excuse revolves around having something to munch on in Speech class. This week, in order to study interpersonal communication, we’re watching the recent version of Pride & Prejudice. It has come to pass in this semester that almost every single person in my Speech class brings a snack every day. I don’t know why or how this has occurred, but it has, and it makes me hungry.

Usually, all I tend to tote to school is a water bottle, perhaps a granola bar if I had a small breakfast. Taking into account that this class is basically a lunchroom and it’s a movie day, though, I could not resist popping by Starbucks for a cappuccino and a rocky road cake pop. Eating in class is just too fun to pass up.

cuban sandwich

I made Cuban sandwiches with homemade pernil, a.k.a. Puerto Rican roasted pork shoulder. My mom requested it for her birthday and I was more than happy to oblige.

Pernil is serious yum, guys. You should try some a.s.a.p.

I made a 100% on my World Civilizations test.

This week…

bandagey business

I injured myself.

Okay, it was just my toe.

It was a sports injury.

If you count Zumba as a sport.

It all happened in a flash.

I danced.

I tripped.

I winced.

I cussed.

I whimpered.

I bandaged.

I laughed, because my sister popped in during the bandaging process and told me we were working on “Operation No Appendage Left Behind.”

weird granola bars

I attempted to create an awesomely easy recipe for peanut butter granola bars. Things started out promisingly. They contained peanut butter,

granola,

granola

and some chocolate chips that I was too busy munching on to bother photographing.

But then things kinda got too melty, and too loose, and too funky-looking to be presentable and recipe-worthy. That being said, a pan of that granola-peanut-butter-chocolate messiness would be the perfect thing to bring to some sort of movie night with friends.

Close friends who won’t be weirded out by your culinary concoctions.

dubliners side view

I worked on my super duper uber huge World Lit project on James Joyce. I’m doing a presentation on one of his short stories from Dubliners, “The Dead”, which, as I’m sure you can imagine, is the uplifting, lighthearted tale of a present controlled by an inescapable past and mankind’s futile attempts to rise above its mundane state of existence. Fun!

That being said, it is a pretty interesting story and should make for a great essay and class presentation. Plus, since James Joyce was Irish, it gives me the perfect excuse to make decorated, shamrock-shaped sugar cookies to dole out in class.

I like cooking for people—just ‘cuz.

This week…

I saw a fantastical Bollywood movie, called Chance pe Dance. It has everything that I was in the mood to see—music, dance, comedy, and Shahid Kapoor. The plot was strung together on paperclips, but it was such fun to watch. For any Bollywood aficionados reading, I was thrilled to see how much Shahid’s acting has improved, both in dramatic scenes and in his comedic skillz, he was surprisingly engaging and pretty hilarious. Genelia made for a spunky, easy-going heroine who was fun to watch and the kids were super cute. I had rented this from Netflix, but I actually think I will end up buying a copy for myself, ‘twas that good.

This week…

peanut butter marshmallow crackers

I had a snack of crackers smeared with peanut butter and/or Nutella, topped with mini marshmallows, and toasted to ooey gooey perfection. This has always been a favorite snack in my house, going all the way back to childhood. I’m curious, though. Was this a common munchie for others as well? Did you ever eat this kind of stuff after school? Do tell!

This week…

A normal, informative, picture-filled recipe post just wasn’t coming. A flippy-floppy, disjointed inner dialogue post was. I hope you have enjoyed.

    Thanks to my amazing family-this week has been one of my bestest birthdays ever.Calls from family and friends, my youngest singing to me, peach roses, yummy cupcakes, a great bollywood movie, loading up on new Big Fish games from their spring sale, heartwarming card from my folks, a surprise Coach purse, books, and Koci's incredible pernil subs while watching part 2 of Upstairs/Downstairs on PBS. My cup overflows with love and gratitude. Koci, I think we should make pernil nachos with the leftovers to enjoy while watching Dancing with the Stars.

    Wow..soo much good food! I am absolutely loving the ganache cupcake!
    I try and make up excuses why I need a Starbucks! Sometimes you just want a treat. I try not to think about how its practically 4 bucks for a drink!

    I enjoy your mish mash posts, though it's usually too much YUM to handle! The pernil subs are making me dribble on myself. Happy birthday to your mum! I hope your injury is better now.

    Those leaf photos are beautiful. Light shining through leaves is one of my favourite things.

    Yup… Zumba can be dangerous! Your summary of 'The Dead' sounds like a metaphor for Ireland's current recessionary mire. I think I'd rather ponder that pernil (will try as soon as I get a recipe for it) and those amazing cupcakes.
